The System admin page will be displayed. Within the System admin page, navigate to System settings Metadata system rules:

The System rules page is displayed:

To edit a specific rule, click the pencil icon next to that rule:

The Edit rule screen will be displayed:

Make the changes you need to make to this rule and click Save. For more information on how the metadata rules work and how they are explained, click here.

You will be returned to the System rules screen. Click Save to save your changes.

Please note that if you try and add a metadata block but don't select the metadata, an error message will be displayed and you will be unable to save your changes until it is resolved.

In addition, within the system rules page is described more here.

Mandatory email metadata preferences

As of 5.6, we have introduced the ability to make a users email preference metadata mandatory, ensuring they do not miss out on any emails sent that are dependent on this metadata.

Once the metadata rules are set up as shown above, navigate to your profile dropdown > System admin:

The System admin screen is displayed. Within the System admin screen, navigate to System settings > Metadata:

The Metadata screen is displayed. Within the Metadata screen, select the metadata you wish to update:

You will now be editing that piece of metadata. Within this screen, you will see a new option called Mandatory in email preferences:

Please note that this check box will not be displayed if you have not set up your system metadata rules

Select the Mandatory in email preferences check box and click Save.

This will make the metadata a required field.

Now, when a user is viewing their preferences via their drop down menu > My preferences, the metadata you have set up will now be mandatory (denoted by the red star):

Now, if a user tries to save their preferences without selecting the required fields, an error message will be shown:

Forcing them to select the relevant metadata.
