Administrators have the ability to move or copy files and folders from one site to either (a) another site or (b) a different location within the same site.
This includes, for an internal user, the option to move or copy files to and from My files.
The Move/Copy feature only keeps basic file or folder information:
- Any metadata associated with the original file will not be associated with the copy (except for the filename).
- Any custom sorting that was applied to the files and folders in the source location will not be applied when the files are copied.
- Only the most recent version of each file will be copied.
If the source site had PDF conversion or DRM applied, those settings will be ignored and the native version of the files will be copied. The copied files will take their attributes solely from the destination site, such as whether DRM applies or the applicable permissions, settings, etc.
Who can move or copy files and folders?
The option to copy files from a site will only be visible to a site administrator, content administrator or the site creator for that site, or to any system administrator.

When copying or moving a folder, if you do not need files from the selected folders, select Only copy folder structure.
After your files or folders have been moved or copied, you receive a message indicating that the move or copy has been successful. You also receive an email once the operation has completed.
If there are any issues copying the files, these issues will be detailled in the message and email. If any files cannot be copied, for whatever reason, they will be ignored. All other files will be copied.
Audit records
The system maintains an audit record of moved or copied files, on both the source and destination side. On the destination side, the audit activity includes that the file was moved or copied, and from what site:
